Understand the concept of the travel and tourism sector

Introduction: Today, I am going to write about the three main types of tourism and the reason why people travel. Also I will write a report to assess the economic contribution of tourism to the UK economy.
There are three main types of tourism in the tourism industry.
  1. ·       Domestic tourism is taking holiday or trips in your own country. e.g. Victoria is visiting her family in London, she lives in Leeds. This type of tourism is domestic tourism because she stayed in the UK.

  • ·       Out-bound tourism is travelling to different country.

e.g. Marcel LeRoi is going to watch France Vs Ireland in Dublin. This type of tourism is out-bound tourism because he is out of France.
  • ·       In-band tourism is visit from the overseas.

e.g. Anna-Maria is visiting Scotland from Chile to undertake language course in Edinburgh. This type tourism is In-band tourism because Maria is from Chile (overseas).
 Business:
There are lots of reasons why people travel; the main categories are for leisure, business and visit friends and family etc.
Some people do travel for business, a lot of people travel to the UK because of its currency, and also its facilities of good infrastructure.

The UK offers the best business facilities such as transport and well trained employees. Travelling and tourism in the purpose of business, people travel where they can find good income and access the facilities. Business people love to travel in peaceful countries and democracies, these facilities helps the business to grow fast.
Sport:
Some people do travel for sport, such as Football (World cup, African cup of nation, champions’ league and Euro foot). Sport brings the community together and ends war, discrimination, anti-social behaviour and racism. South Africa hosted the World Cup 2010, the first African country to host the World Cup in Africa. South Africa is a country mix with different races, and the bad thing was they couldn’t live together because of some people have more than other.

Twenty years-ago when this man came out of the prison, and bought democracy, racial harmony and stability in RSA (Republic of South Africa)  Nelson Mandela said “ sport had the power to change the world ...to inspire ...to unite people”. South Africa world Cup 2010 was a success because a lot of people (fans) went there in purpose of tourism and etc. South Africa have gained good infrastructure, and the good thing about hosting the World Cup or big events is your country have gained the trust (reputation) of the World.
“...This is significant, since GDP growth this year is estimated at 2.0 to 2.5 per cent of which 0.5 per cent is accounted for by a single event.” Said Saunders
South Africa had inspired the World and the all Africa especially to never stop believing.

Religion:
Some people do travel for religion pilgrimage. As Christian, I believe that travelling for the purpose of pilgrimage helps to understand more about your religion. I think as catholic, I personally, always wanted to go in Rome especially Vatican City, going there helps me to have more (better) understanding about being a catholic.
This is Lauders locate in southern France, in region of Midi-Pyrenees. As Catholic I believe Lourdes is part of my religion (faith). About 5.000.000 or/ (five million) pilgrims and tourists visit Lourdes every year, which makes it the second largest Roman Catholic place most visited after Vatican City. Lourdes has a great reputation around the world. As Catholic I believe that Mary (Holy mother of Jesus) had appeared eighteen times there. “...The Roman Catholic Church has officially recognised 67 miraculous healings which are stringently for authenticity and miracle healing with no physical or psychological basis other than the healing power of the water.” Said the Roman Catholic Church
That’s the reason why millions of people visit Lourdes every year.

Report to access the contribution of tourism to the UK economy:

The UK is one of the countries most visited by international tourist arrivals. The UK is ranked 6th in 2007 just before Turkey.

In 2006 about 30.7 million tourists visited the UK, and in 2007 30.9 million tourists visited the UK, but in 2008 because of the global crisis which had hit the world economic, and made the tourism industry worst. In 2008 the percentage or numbers of tourists dropped down from 30.9 million tourists to 30.1 million tourists, and in 2009 it has dropped again to 28.0 million.

So far this year the UK have welcomed the Pope Benedict XVI in the UK, this one week event have invited people or tourists from overseas to visit the pope in the UK.  Earlier pope’s visit helped the Scotland tourism as more than 100,000 of tourists visited Edinburg to see the pope, and also tourist pope had attracted the world media to write about Edinburg. And this helps the economy in the way of employment. The more and more people from overseas are visiting your country it creates employment and also it increases the numbers of infrastructures. But the most important is, it brings racial harmony in society. Experts expected that around 150,000 to 200,000 tourists will visit England alone during the pope’s visit in London. This will strengthen the reputation of London and will also prepare London for its big event ‘the Olympic Game’.

London is second most visited city after Paris, in 2009 about 14.1 million of tourists visited London. London is preparing to host ‘the 2011 champions’ league final’ in Wembley and in 2012 London will host the Olympic game. London has a reputation around the world about its facilities of growing fast businesses, and its busy airport Heathrow. London is about to build around 100,000 hotel rooms just for the game. In year to come the numbers of jobs linked to tourism could rise by 264,000 to 289 million.  Hosting the Olympic game in London means the tourism sector is likely to grow by 3.5% between 2010 and 2020.

Those three main types of tourism also contribute to the UK economy. Domestic and overseas visitors put an estimated £115 billion a year into the UK. The visitors from overseas’ spending could almost double from £16 billion to £30 billion by 2020.
This helps the economy to grow, and to create more jobs and to build good infrastructure.

The domestic tourism spend about £22.2 billion trips 1 plus night, this really contribute to the local economy and it creates employment for its residents, and also it increases the numbers tourists attraction, and it conservers the natural park and few other things.
In 2009, 18.0 million domestic tourists spent £4.3 billion for overnight business trips. Overall the number of domestic tourism has increased by 7% higher than 2008, and also the total of spending has increased by 4%. This is good news for the tourism sector, and this will contribute in things like museum, parks, and few other things (tourists’ attraction)

The UK economy has grown by 1.2%, and the tourism industry has contributed so much to the UK economy. All three types of tourism play a significant role in the UK economy regarding employment, infrastructures and tourists attractions.
